Alexandria, Virginia, has a history that is integrally related to the founding of the United States. George Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, on Pope Creek Plantation, barely a mile from the Potomac River. The family moved between Ferry Farms in Fredericksburg and Little Hunting Creek Plantation, or Mount Vernon, as it is now known, over the years. Our country's first president started out as a surveyor, and Alexandria was one of the first towns he surveyed and designed. Follow in the footsteps of George Washington's beloved city on this walking tour of Alexandria.
